The Rebuild

A major fire on Friday 24 February 2017 caused extensive damage to the Katoomba RSL ASC in Lurline Street, Katoomba and as a result trading has ceased at that location until further notice. The extent of the damage was considerable.

To the RSL Sub Branch Members and the veteran community we can report that the prized memorabilia collection was severely affected. Some items of a metallic nature, survived. Items such as photographs, books, records, wood, china and clothing material were unable to be saved.

Nearly all of the original medal collection has thankfully survived and will require extensive restoration. The ship's bell from HMAS Katoomba has survived and will also require restoration. However, the banner of HMAS Katoomba, just recently restored in a magnificent new case, did not. The Cenotaph and the Bofors Gun did survive. The sandstone Dedication Stones placed on the exterior walls have also survived and will be retrieved.

The demolition process has commenced and the Club is preparing for the rebuilding program.
